One of sparqs’ current “priority themes” is departmental representation – that is, the engagement of students, particularly officers, in the middle level of institutional decision-making, such as faculties, schools, sectors or curriculum areas.
A group of staff and student officers from across the sector is supporting sparqs by providing advice and guidance on the ideal focus and priorities of this work. These are likely to include the experience of student representatives at the departmental level, good practice among staff in supporting them, the impact of the learning experience, and the role of such representatives in wider representation structures and students’ associations.
The project may include surveys, interviews and collation of good practice, with the provision of materials, guidance and toolkits to assist those involved in developing student engagement at this level. More detailed information about the scope and requirements of this project will be available in our May e-Bulletin.
