As part of continuing revision to our popular “Supporting College Student Governors” programme, sparqs has been developing a set of toolkits for use by staff and students in the college sector.
To accompany our annual residential events for student members of college boards of management, the toolkits aim to provide some broader developmental support not just to the student members but the boards themselves and college staff who work with them.
Covering issues including board members’ expectations of student members, the promotion and induction of the student member and the role of the second student nominee, the toolkits provide a series of self-reflective exercises and discussion points that can help board clerks and chairs, college senior managers, students’ association staff and of course student board members to reflect on their approaches, share good practice, and identify areas for development or action.
These toolkits have been piloted in eight colleges in the highlands and islands, and will be modified based on feedback before being launched nationally towards the end of the year. Clerks to college boards of management and other key contacts will be contacted directly about this once the toolkits are finalised.
