Pre-summer induction event for new college student governors

in training & support

An event will be held on Tuesday 24 May in Edinburgh for students who are newly-elected as members or observers of their college board of management for the year 2011-12. This forms part of our Supporting College Student Governors programme, which we run jointly with NUS Scotland.

The day will focus on topics like induction to the role of board member, the challenges currently facing boards, and developing yourself throughout your term of office. Participants will also benefit from valuable input by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education, Scotland’s Colleges and the Scottish Funding Council.

Although our October residential event for student governors grows from strength to strength, we have created this pre-summer event to respond to demand from colleges who elect new student governors in April or May and thus have several months to wait for the benefits of October’s training. The residential will happen as usual, in addition to the pre-summer event, and key contacts will receive information about this in due course.

Clerks to boards, students’ association presidents, and students’ association staff contacts have been contacted about this May event, and full details are also available on our website here.
