In the 2011-12 academic year we trained more reps than ever before with 2549 student attending, which represents a 14% increase on last year. This has been down to your hard work getting reps along to the training.
We hope to reach even more next year and continue to receive positive feedback from participants. This year 89% found the training useful or very useful, and as a result of the training 96% of reps understand or fully understand their role, up from 52% prior to the training.
When asked what they would do differently as a result of the training many reps responded by telling us they felt more confident in their role and would therefore be more active in their role. One student said “Everything! I now understand completely what to do and I feel I have the ability to do what I need to”.
In response to feedback from reps attending the training and our team of Associate Trainers we have improved the training so that it now more accurately follows the process a course rep would go through. The redevelopment also involved examination of the resources required to deliver the training and how best to limit their environmental and financial impact. To this end we have redesigned the handbook and workbook. The handbook will now become an online resource which will sit alongside a whole suite of online resources for course reps. We will now ask workbook institutions to print their own workbooks rather than by sparqs.. The workbook has been redesigned to make sure it contains only core materials necessary for the delivery of the training and is easily printed by institutions.
If you have any questions regarding Course Rep Training or its redevelopment please contact Iain Delworth, Development Advisor (Training) on iain.delworth@sparqs.ac.uk or 0131 622 6599.
